The tactic of the Allies of taking over the Pacific and the Japanese by attacking island by island.

Battle on the island of Betio to help secure air strips. Introduced the idea of Atoll warfare, where the offensive attacks came from quick and frequent strikes and bombardments

An island in the Mariana Islands.
Iwo Jima
A battle in the Pacific, with the invasion of allied forces onto the Japanese island. They were looking to take over airfields to help with an attack on the mainland of Japan.
Okinawa
Last battle of World War II, and the largest in the Pacific, that was fought on the island of Okinawa, in hopes of securing the airfields there to help better prepare for attacks on the mainland of Japan.
Kamikaze
A Japanese aircraft loaded with explosives and making a deliberate suicidal crash on an enemy target

Research project that built the first atomic bomb during World War II.

33rd president of the United States. He was elected in 1945 and was president at the end of World War II.
Einstein
Scientist born in Germany that worked on the Manhattan Project and helped develop the first atomic bomb.
Oppenheimer
American scientist who worked on the Manhattan Project and helped develop the first atomic bomb.
Enola Gay
A Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber that dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Little Man/ Fat Boy
These were the bombs created by the Manhattan Project. Little Man was dropped on Hiroshima while Fat Man was designated to drop on Nagasaki.
A New Japan
The Emperor was able to stay in power, but after the war Japan was controlled by the Allied Powers and became a democratic state.
